One of the more difficult adjustments for the newly collared House Boy can be Sleeping Naked And Uncovered. The rule requires that they remain naked while resting, and they also are prohibited from using top sheets, blankets or bedspread to substantially cover or conceal their body parts. The newly collared House Boy will sometimes suffer anxiety at the thought of feeling so exposed and vulnerable in a bedroom without a door, they sometimes worry about temperature control and catching a cold, and can be nervous at the thought of being observed as they toss and turn during their sleep. The option of an adjustment period eases the transition to Sleeping Naked And Uncovered, and access to a thermostat in the bedroom alleviates concerns about temperature and comfort issues.
This seven hour 14-frame time lapse of House Boy David sleeping with the bedroom light on is typical of the tossing and turning a newly collared House Boy will experience before he has fully adjusted to Sleeping Naked And Uncovered. Viewed from the foot of the bed just inside the entry way to the bedroom, David can be seen transitioning from his side to his back to his stomach and back to his side again over the course of the assigned rest period. Since the entryway to this bedroom is visible from the main living room and visiting area, Master can keep an eye on the House Boy to make sure he complies with nighttime sleep protocols and isn’t watching television or playing video games (or playing with himself). The arrangement also allows any guest to help supervise the House Boy as well.
For the House Boy who is brave and willing to jump in the deep end of the pool rather than walking gently down the entry steps, he is permitted to waive the grace period and submit to full time Sleeping Naked And Uncovered immediately upon collaring. Master views these House Boys in a special light, but warns them that waiver of the Grace Period can not be reversed. They are also reminded that it is common for the human male to grow an occasional erection during the sleep and rest cycle, and that despite the potential embarrassment it doesn’t break any protocol, because any rule prohibiting an erection while asleep would be obviously unenforceable.
For the majority of House Boys who elect to utilize the grace period, the top sheets and blankets are initially available six nights a week, gradually reducing their use to five, then four and three and so on until finally the House Boy is notified when his final night arrives where coverings are permitted. The transition to Sleeping Naked And Uncovered becomes permanent, and access to top sheets and blankets are reserved for Master and overnight guests only. Any improper use of bedding is always subject to discipline.
Prospective House Boys are advised to practice sleeping without clothing or covering before applying to serve. Even a few hours a night — or during a daytime nap — can help acclimate for better rest. Kicking up the room temperature will help with comfort issues and ease the transition from wakefulness to dream state.
As a reminder, House Boys have No Right To Privacy during any duty or chore, regardless of who may be present and could observe.
